Hidden Disabilities

Sunflower Lanyards

Like most public buildings, we understand the importance behind the sunflower lanyard as we recognise not all disabilities are visible. Our staff are trained to help, support, listen, and recognise that you may need that extra bit of time in our shops too. To help us identify those who have hidden disabilities such as autism, please ensure you have your sunflower lanyard visible.

Assistance Dogs

Like most public buildings, Derbion welcomes assistance dogs in the centre. If your dog does not wear a high-vis jacket or harness, it is sometimes difficult for our staff to recognise the difference between assistance dogs and pets, which are not allowed in our centres.

Assistance dogs’ terms and conditions.

Assistance dogs:

  • access to assistance dogs is on a one dog per handler basis.
  • will not wander freely around the premises
  • will sit or lie quietly on the floor next to their owner
  • are unlikely to foul in a public place

ShopMobility

ShopMobility UK is a nationwide network of centres which hire out mobility equipment to the public. This equipment is mainly manual wheelchairs, powerchairs and mobility scooters so people with restricted mobility can enjoy independence outdoors. These hire services are low cost or sometimes free to all ages of people looking to access shops and leisure facilities.

ShopMobility centres only provide reliable and comfortable products that ensure confidence and peace of mind. If walking longer distances is a problem or spending time outdoors with friends and family is challenging, ShopMobility Derby can help.

Shopmobility at Derbion is set to temporarily close to facilitate essential work on the Eastern Gateway development.

Shopmobility will temporarily close on 2 December and is set to reopen at Derbion early in the new year. Minimising inconvenience during this period, Derbion and Shopmobility will provide a limited replacement service at Derby Bus Station from 4 December.

The temporary service will operate Wednesday to Friday each week using a cash-only system. It will offer a reduced number of scooters for hire, with long term and holiday hire options still available, so advance bookings are essential.

Shoppers in need of assistance are encouraged to plan ahead and call the Shopmobility team on 01332 200320 at least 24h in advance for bookings or enquiries.
